Welcome to the National
Association of State Farm Agents web site.
For more than 35 years, NASFA has been
dedicated to the independent contractor State Farm agent.
Browse through our site, and see
what other agents have to say. We welcome your feedback.
State Farm Bank Report
As a
concerned agent, you, like NASFA, have likely been concerned
with State Farm’s move into the banking industry. NASFA hired a well known banking expert,
Catherine A. Ghiglieri, the former State Banking
Commissioner from Texas, to do professional analysis of
the bank.
We have the facts, taken from federally mandated
reports. The State Farm Bank, according to reports it
filed with the government, says it only became
profitable in June 2011.
State Farm agents need to be
aware of an embarrassing issue that has arisen for State
Farm. Numerous news agencies have reported that State
Farm donated approximately $2.4 million to an Illinois
Appellate Judge who later voted for State Farm in the $1
billion replacement parts case. Several attorneys have
filed class action lawsuits against State Farm over the
donations.
Charleston, South Carolina will host the single
best networking opportunity for independent
contractor State Farm agents in 2012. The
National Association of State Farm Agents’ 2012
Annual Convention will be held June 14-17, 2012
at the
Francis Marion Hotel.
NASFA is surveying State Farm agents (members and
nonmembers) about the issues they face in their
agencies. We will use the feedback to craft future NASFA
communications and programs. Please click on the link
below to take the survey.
We have also created a special survey to
address the unique concerns of TICA04 and AA05 agents.
If you are an agent with one of these contracts, please
complete this survey as well.
If you have not noticed, you should be aware that
non-Select agents cannot be found on the State Farm
website through the quote process. NASFA has addressed
this by memo, NASFAX and a letter to Chairman Rust.
All may be found here.
Please take a moment to use the sample letter to help
protect agent visibility on the State Farm website.

NASFA
has developed a presence on Facebook, Twitter and
LinkedIn, adding these social networking tools to its
communication program. Click on the links below to

TICA04 and AA05 agents have an opportunity to join NASFA FREE for
one year. If you prefer, you can join anonymously and
your identity will not even be known to the NASFA board.
We know TICA04 and AA05 agents face significant challenges and we
believe the collective experience of NASFA members can
help. Give membership a try. Remember, with NASFA,
you're never alone.
It might help TICA04 and
AA05
agents if “challenges” were disclosed before acceptance
of the contract. Here is some real world guidance so
changes can be implemented before the “challenges” get
out of control.
You are not alone in
the challenges you face as an independent
contractor State Farm agent. From underwriting
restrictions to financial products, from finding good
staff to just finding the time, our members are facing
the same challenges. In some cases, we’ve found answers
that can help you. In others, we are fighting to make
its members’ agency opportunity everything it was
promised to be.
No matter what the
challenge, when you join NASFA, you don't have
to face it alone.
Should You Sign State Farm Amendment to Conform to
IRS Code?
State Farm for some time has been offering agents
entitled to term pay and extended term an amendment to
conform to amendments to the Internal Revenue Code.
NASFA asked its tax counsel, David Haga, for his opinion
on what an agent should do, sign or not. Mr. Haga's
opinion is that you should sign the offered amendment.
NASFA
has resolved to communicate more efficiently this year.
That means using more e-mail, so we're updating our
database with as many members' e-mail addresses as
possible. Please provide a personal e-mail
address, not a statefarm.com address.
Agency
Partnership?
What has happened to
the State Farm Agency Partnership? NASFA
surveyed agents across the country with all
Agent's Agreements and listed to their
comments. Many of
them are published in this issue of The
Mirror. Take a look and see if you agree.
NASFA remains the only
association exclusively focused on issues faced by
independent contractor State Farm agents. If you're
looking for answers, you're not
alone. You'll find help as in NASFA membership
as you share the experience of thousands of your peers.
NASFA feels it might help TICA/AA05
agents if “challenges” were disclosed BEFORE
acceptance of the contract. At that time, the
candidate will have some real world guidance so
changes can be implemented before the
“challenges” get out of control.
